Course details

Automation Project Engineering (Instrumentation Symbols, P & ID, Instrumentation Documents, Panel Documents, Project Management, Installation & Commissioning Practice, Standards and Practices) -

Automation systems are being extensively used in almost all industries including oil and gas, petrochemicals, fertilizer, chemical, power, steel, food & beverages, cement, etc. for monitoring, regulatory and sequential control, safety, advance process control, reports and various other tasks including that of connectivity to office automation for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). An appropriate automation is a prerequisite for being competitive in the global market.

As for most of the automation systems, the technical possibilities provided have grown dramatically during last few years. However the techniques to specify customer and user requirements in terms of functionality, performance etc. are not very well developed. This often leads to systems, which do not fulfill user needs and customer expectations, and/or lead to failure. The failure could also lead to plant shutdown/ trip, delays in commissioning, downgraded performance. This is also true in various other cases viz. a) loop holes in different project life cycle stages of requirement analysis, design, integration, testing, modification and maintenance etc.; b) Modifications during optimization c) On line modifications by the process operators/ engineers etc.

An appropriate automation project detailed design and engineering is necessary to ensure the best performance. It means that the automation engineering has to be driven by the team of experts from various departments viz. process, operations, maintenance, projects, instrumentation, electrical, mechanical and piping etc. in co-operation with the automation vendor.

This course is developed especially for the design, project, commissioning, installation, and maintenance engineers and also for the programmers, field engineers and supervisors dealing with automation. This is an introductory course, which aims to build a good understanding about the basics of Automation Project Engineering and it focuses on providing the practical aspects of detailed design for field instrumentation, control panel and control system integration.

The course covers role of automation, applications, specifications and hardware selection, documentation related to URS and FDS, instrumentation symbols, P & ID, instrument specifications, control panel and field wiring diagrams, installation and commissioning practice. A special emphasis on real life implementations, case studies and international standards would ensure participants to co-relate the theory with their day to day practice. A brief introduction to hierarchical structure would help the participants to enhance their exposure related to control pyramid and interface to office automation systems.

  • Have a brief exposure to Hierarchical Structure of Automation and Control Systems
